The release of Self Service for Mac v2.7 is scheduled for Tuesday, May 12 at 9:00 AM EDT / 13:00 UTC. Improvements.
Self Service for Mac now includes a new menu bar experience for Prebuilt App updates. This gives end users a clear place to view available updates, see when updates will be enforced, and take action at a convenient time.
With this release, the Self Service menu bar icon will be enabled for all organizations and will appear for all macOS users. For organizations deploying Prebuilt Apps, the icon will display a red badge when updates are available.
Clicking the icon opens a popover that lists pending updates and enforcement dates for Prebuilt Apps deployed through policy. End users can update individual apps using Update, or apply all pending updates at once using Update All.
Only policy-deployed Prebuilt Apps appear in the menu bar update list. Prebuilt Apps installed by the end user from Self Service do not appear in this list.
The menu bar experience adapts based on the device’s Self Service configuration: • Devices with a Self Service configuration will follow your selected options, such as Open Self Service, Create Support Request, and Chat, alongside available Prebuilt App updates. • Devices without a Self Service configuration will only show available Prebuilt App updates when applicable.
Update Prompt Behavior If an app that needs an update is open, the end user may receive a prompt to update or defer.
To avoid repeated interruptions, users will not receive prompts for every open app at the same time. For example, if 3 apps need updates and all 3 are open, the user will see the prompt for the first app only. After they update or defer, prompts for the other apps will wait until the configured frequency period has passed, such as 4 or 8 hours.
Users can still open the menu bar popover at any time to review and install available updates.
Note: If your organization has configured a custom Self Service .icns icon, that icon will be used in the menu bar. Otherwise, the default Addigy icon is displayed.
General Reminder: Before any release, ensure Addigy is allowlisted in your security solutions to prevent potential issues. Follow the guidelines below and create a support ticket with any questions before the scheduled release.
